Scared To Upgrade

Recommended Posts

I inherited the task of upgrading our IVR system. Our current system is running on Win2000 with a Dialogic 4PCIu card and VoiceGuide 5. It has been running on it's own for close to 10 years without any intervention.

Apparently it was a BEAR to install. Our installer has six pages of notes on how to install that system. He had to scour the internet and other sources for the drivers he needed to get the D/4PCIu card to work in the Win2000 box. He had to source GlobalCall on his own because it was not included in the VoiceGuide install. He had to find DLL's and connection strings and TAPI installers on his own because none of that was included in our original install.

Have things gotten better over the years? Is VoiceGuide today a simple one click install? Or will there still be a lot of tweaking to get our old Dialogic card to work in a new box, and working with VoiceGuide? Is there a recommended upgrade path to a successful WIN7 install?

We have been mandated to abandon Win2000 in favor of a more current and more supported OS. If we can't keep using VoiceGuide 5 and have to move to Win7, this is the time to explore the many other IVR solutions out there.

Dialogic drivers are available for download from our Downlands page: http://www.voiceguide.com/vgDownload.htm

As is VoiceGuide v7 software.

VoiceGudie v7 also requires that .NET 3.5 is on the system.

The D/4PCIU card is fine and will work with VoiceGuide v7.

Installation involved running the Dialogic install .EXE, restarting, and then running the VoiceGudie v7 install .EXE (run both 'as Administrator').

You will then be able to Dial into system and hear VoiceGuide answer the call.

Instructions are also available here: http://www.voiceguide.com/vghelp/source/html/install_v7_dialogicsr60.htm

Thanks, that's very encouraging.

Does that mean that GlobalCall and TAPI drivers are no longer necessary, or that they are now installed automatically?

TAPI is not used by VoiceGuide v6 and VoiceGuide v7. TAPI is only used by VoiceGuide v5.

Global Call is part of Dialogic installation. It is installed automatically and you do not even know its there.
