Busy Signal

Recommended Posts

Hi, we've just setup 2 boxes running Windows Server 2008 with 4 licenses each for a customer. They have 2 x ISDN 30 services installed which are plugged into these boxes. When we put through test calls the both boxes answer the calls correctly 4 times each but then additional test calls are presented with busy repeatedly until one of the boxes then takes another call at which point 4 calls will go through successfully again and then back to busy for a long period.

What appears to be happening is that the lines are in rotary and we are cycling through the 30 channels being presented with busy on 26 of them, then 4 answer correctly and then we move onto the next ISDN circuit and the same thing repeats.

We've checked both boxes have the licenes installed and do not need to be reset every hour so the licenses are active and working. Originally we had all lines setup in the config.xml file in preparation for buying more licenses however when we started trying to debut this issue we removed the 26 unused lines in the hopes that may shed some light on the problem.

Have attached the latest log files from one of the severs. If you require more information or the other log files then please let us know.

Thanks for your assistance.

No log files were attached, but your diagnosis of the problem is more then likely correct:

The 4 line license lets you open 4 lines/channels. On an E1 system that carries 30 lines/channels you would need a 30 line license so that you are able to open/enable all 30 channels.

Please find log files attached this time.

We have other VG servers which have less licenses than the maximum channels on our ISDN services and we have never experienced this problem before. For example we never get presented busy on our 16 and 18 channel servers (both of which have ISDN 30's connected to them). Do different carriers differ in this regard?

Most likely the telco providing the other E1s is sending calls on the 'lowest available' channel. Whereas this telco is cycling through each channel in turn, or uses the 'most idle channel' approach when selecting on which channel to send in the call.
