Most PBXs do not forward the Caller ID data in same way as telephone companies do.

Some PBXs can forward CallerID data using Inband Signaling instead.

It all depends on what your PBX supports.

The Donjin card would support Inband Signaling detection (it's just DTMF tones), but you would need to check its documentation to see what Telco CallerID signaling it detects.

For VoiceGuide inband signaling configuration please see: http://www.voiceguide.com/vghelp/source/html/inbandsignaling.htm

So the Voice Guide can work only with PBX configured telephone lines and not with Direct telephone line in retrieving the Caller ID?

VoiceGuide does receive CallerID from Direct/Telco telephone lines.

Most systems that rely on receiving & using CallerID use lines direct from Telco instead of passing them through PBX.

Hi Guys,

I am using Direct line from Telco, still I am not able get the caller id, also I have used a sample Inband Signaling Definition File(Donjin.txt) which is attached for guidance, please check and revert as soon as possible. My Donjin card version is this Donjin Cti Card (Dw-081A / M2-T). Should do some modifications to this Inband Signaling Definition File(Donjin.txt)

Telco rarely sends CallerID using Inband Signalling.

Which Telco are you using?

Do you know what encoding your Telco uses to send CallerID data?

(eg. many US telcos use "Bellcore FSK")

Do you know at what time your Telco sends the CallerID data?

(eg. most US telcos send it between the first and second ring)

Do you know what Caller ID encoding methods are detected by your Donjin card?

First thing to try would be to have your calls answered after the 2nd ring, and see if this results in the CallerID data being reported.

Note we have upgraded our Donjin card to JCT Series(DN161AJCT 4T analog board). Yet we cant get the Caller ID...

Which Telco are you using?

BSNL (India)

Do you know what encoding your Telco uses to send CallerID data?

(eg. many US telcos use "Bellcore FSK")

In India most of the telecom operators are using DTMF

Do you know at what time your Telco sends the CallerID data?

(eg. most US telcos send it between the first and second ring)

Caller ID is sent between the first and second ring(I get a half ring first and in between the second full ring, the caller ID is sent)

Do you know what Caller ID encoding methods are detected by your Donjin card? (?)

The below answer was given by Donjin

Donjin support both DTMF and FSK,Based on the input we use separate API functions for both. Need to check set at Voice Guide based on the Telco operator Encoding.

First thing to try would be to have your calls answered after the 2nd ring, and see if this results in the CallerID data being reported.

The Voice Guide Doesn't pick up the call when I set it to 2 rings, but it is able to pick the call when I set it as 1

What should I do now?

Please post traces (ktTel and vgEngine) capturing the software startup and an incoming call (with VG set to answer after 2 rings).

We can then see what is happening on the system.

Trace shows only one Ring event reported by Donjin, and shows that Donjin is not reporting any DTMF tones being heard on the line after the DTMF tone.

Is this Telco sending DTMF encoded CallerID if the call is picked up immediately after first ring? You can test this by just manually releasing the onhook button while listening to the handset and seeing if any DTMF tones can be heard.

A Dialogic card would just report any DTMF tones heard between first and second ring, and VoiceGuide is deigned to use the DTMF tones received in between the RINGS as part of the CallerID signaling string. We have sites which use Dialogic cards and function this way.

Is this is a problem with Donjin card or voice guide. My telco is sending DTMF encoded CallerID. Or any configuration settings to be done?

At this stage it looks like an issue with Donjin.

Donjin claims to be functionally equivalent to Dialogic, yet in this situation the Donjin is not reporting the DTMF tones, whereas the Dialogic card is reporting them (as can be seen in this support forum thread: http://voiceguide.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=6555 )

Both the Dialogic card and Donjin are configured by VoiceGuide in the same way.
