Downloaded Version - Unable To Play Any Wave File

Recommended Posts

I recently downloaded Voice Guide to show a demo to a client about the following functionality

a- Sales guys call into our system

b- They type in their pin - validated in the system

c- Upon validation - the VG system interactively captures information about customer details (Name, address etal)

Unfortunately - I am not able to go beyond capturing the pin. Infact the wave file which prompts the sales guy to type in the PIN number does not play. Meaning - I am not able to hear the wave file thru the phone. While if I play that file all by itself in REAL - it plays well.

I am unable to go beyond the first step. How do I create a demo - which is supposed to play some wave files and record some wave files created by the end user.

If demo goes well - the client is expected to buy the product ASAP.

Need help.

Thanks

Sounds like the device's Wave drivers were not correctly installed - can you

try removing all the wave drives on your system (including any sound card drivers) and then re-installing the wave drivers for your telephony device first. Try calling in after doing this, and if the sound can be heard over the phone you can then try to re-install your sound card drivers.

To remove other wave drivers got to Control Panel, double clock on System, select the Device Manager tab and go to Sound/Video/Game Controllers entry - then delete all other wave drivers.

(You may have to disable the sound card altogether as well to stop Windows from automatically loading it's drivers - to do this just select "Disable" and then select "Uninstall" from the Device Manager.)

If you feel it's not the wave drivers that are teh issue could you please send us a copy of VoiceGuide's Debug Printout which captures an incoming call, this will allow us to see what is going wrong.

(When running the script click on VoiceGuide's View menu and select 'Event Trace Log' option - any log information will then appear in this window. You must open the trace window before making the call.)

Thanks for the reply. I do not think it is a problem with the device drivers...as I am able to listen to the other wave files. Besides - the very same wave files which do not play inside Voice Guide System - seems to play independently.

I used the Microsoft Sound Recorder (That which comes with windows 98) for recording the wave files. Plese find enclose the trace log - as requested by you. The trace indicates tht the format of the wave file is inappropriate. Seeking your advise.

The trace shows that when trying to play the sound file the Wave drivers for your telephony device return a WAVERR_BADFORMAT error.

The Wave files need to be recorded in correct format for them to be played, from VG Help file:

Windows Voice Modem Wave driver can only support sound files in the following format PCM 8000Hz, 16bit, Mono. When using Voice modems all sound files must be recorded in the above format.

Dialogic Wave driver prefers sound files in the following format PCM 11025Hz, 8bit, Mono. When using a Dialogic card, all sound files should be recorded in the above format.

(I take it that sound files which came with VoiceGuide play OK on your system)

Yes. the voice guide wave files play good.

How do I record the wave files in the specified format? Any specific voice recorder that you would suggest to use.

Thanks

Any sound recorder/editor software allows you to specify what format to save the sound files in.

The easiest way to change the format of a sound file is to open it in Windows' Sound Recorder app and then chooser "Save As" - the "Save As" Dialog allows you to select the wave file's format as well.

Hello friend,

You may use Audio Edit Delux v 2.3 which is available on the net. I've used it and it is working fine.

simplest way is to just right-click on the .wav file and select 'Properties'. One of the tabs there will show you the file format.

Another way is to open the .wav file in Windows' Sound Recorder and you will be able to view the file's properties there as well.
