Fax Script Answers But Does Not Respond/record

Recommended Posts

hi .. i wrote a simple script to receive faxes.

watching the status monitor, the call is answered and the status says it is recording, but:

a) the fax sender (which i have beside me) still only says "dialing"

B) there is no exchange of tones that you usually hear when faxes start

is there something else i need to configure or do?

i am using the vg7 demo and a dialogic d/120jct-ls. and i tested one of your voice recording scripts on the same line and that worked ok (although i have not tested playing yet, only recording).

regards,

les

Your incoming call arrives on line dxxxB3C3 - that is the 11th line on system.

On that line you have this script specified to be used:

C:\Program Files\VoiceGuide\Scripts\Answer and Record\Answer and Record.vgs

as per this Config.xml entry:

<Channel>

<Name>dxxxB3C3</Name>

<NetworkIf>dxxxB3C3</NetworkIf>

<Protocol>pdk_na_an_io</Protocol>

<RingsBeforeAnswer>2</RingsBeforeAnswer>

<script>C:\Program Files\VoiceGuide\Scripts\Answer and Record\Answer and Record.vgs</Script>

<ConfigLine></ConfigLine>

<AllowDialOut>1</AllowDialOut>

<RV></RV>

</Channel>

The C:\ASAP\apps\telephony\VoiceGuide Scripts\fax receive.vgs script that you want to run has been configured in Config.xml to run for calls arriving on line dxxxB3C4 (12th line), not on dxxxB3C3.

sorry abou tthe confusion, some earlier attempts had that. but i originally had the fax script on 11, then installed the answer one to see if it was my script, and later tried the fax script on 12 as well. the result was always the same.

So does this mean that you have now resolved the configuration issue and it is now working?

If you are still having problems then post the traces as before, showing the call being answered by your fax script.

Hi, no, the problem remains has not changed.

And if the logs don't show what i am describing, I am at a loss what to do next.

As mentioned before, when I watch the line status monitor, I see that it shows that the fax receive script is recording, but the sending fax app shows it is waiting for an answer, and there is certainly no fax ever transmitted/saved. I never hear those "handshake" tones that you normally hear when fax machines talk to each other.

To let us comment on what is happening with a fax script we must have a trace showing that fax script running when the call is answered. Not some other script.

Post the traces capturing the fax script running when call is answered and we can then tell you what is happening.

hmm, i thought that what i had sent included that.

in any case, here is a new zip file from this morning using a new fax receive script that you guys just delivered, along with the log files. the behavior remains the same.

Trace shows the Dialogic drivers report that this card does not support Fax.

Is this a current model D/120JCT or an older card?

Do you have the full model number and revision number for this card?

Is it displayed as a D/120JCT in the DCM?

interesting.

dcm shows:

dialog/hd-pci

d/120jct-ls #0 in slot 1/10

it was purchased used, but thought i had read somewhere that all of these models supported fax.

is it possible that it is just not configured properly, or do i need to scramble to get a newer d/120jct-ls that supports fax?

lcc.

the diagnostics show #FW010737 .. if that is not the revision number let me know and I will dig further.

FW010737 is the serial number of the card.

Do you have the product code of the card? It will be on the sticker on the card somewhere. It should look something like this: 99-3931-123

Do any stickers or printing on the card say whether this card is "Rev 1" or "Rev 2" etc ?

Not sure if the old D/120JCTs did not support fax. We mostly work with current production models and they do support fax tx/rx.

There should be some demo programs installed by Dialogic drivers in the Dialogic driver directory. Can you try running the fax demo programs and see if they work on your card?

i should have this shortly, but i have an urgent question first that I could not find answered on your site or in the support forums.

can i use vg 7 with a dialogic cpi/400 for the fax receiving?

My d/120jct-ls has a product code of 85-0546-204 rev. B.

I am about to try another one that has the same product code but is rev. D.

Link to post

cpi/400 is not supportd. It is an older card. The current model D/41JCT supports fax so basically the D/41JCT has all the features of cpi/400 and does voice/speech./etc as well and is cheaper then cpi/400.

Most likely you have an old D/120JCT that does not support fax.

Probably best thing for you to do is to get a current model D/120JCT (on a trial basis with option to return if you'd like).

thanks for the quick reply.

last question on this i hope- the D/41JCT-LS is appealing. should i be able to run the d/120jct-ls for voice lines and the d/41jct-ls for 4 fax lines, in the same pc, all with vg 7?

Yes.

Recommend ensuring that a current release D/41JCT is used, to ensure that Fax is supported by the card. It is hard to establish is all of the old used D/41JCT cards out there support Fax.

Probably best thing to do is to procure the D/41JCT on a trial basis with option to return if you find that it does not do fax for some reason.

*thanks*, will do.

i have been trying to find out how to change config.xml for 1 x d/120jct-ls and 1 x d/41jct-ls but so far no luck. is there a sample available?

Link to post

You can use the <Channels> section from sample this file:

Sample Config for 16 port using analog DMV160LS card.xml

That file contains a definition for 16 analog lines.

Have a look at the device names - you see that in Dialogic's naming structure there are 4 'Channles' per 'Board'.

First voice device is dxxxB1C1

Second voice device is dxxxB1C2

3rd is dxxxB1C3

4th is dxxxB1C4

5th is dxxxB2C1

6th is dxxxB2C2

7th is dxxxB2C3

8th is dxxxB2C4

9th is dxxxB3C1

etc etc

you just specify as many <Channel> entries in the Config.xml as necessary.

thanks, although i'm still unclear because i used that exact naming system for the 12 ports/channels on the d/120jct-ls.

if i add the d/41jct to the same system, then do its ports/channels just continue on in sequence? (that is, 12 d/120 + 4 d/41 are in the same config.xml, in the same <channel> section)?

Link to post

Yes. The Dialogic drivers find all cards in system and place one card and its resources (lines) in sequence one after another.

Note that you need to have the JCT cards linked by the CTBus cable. Else the Dialogic drivers will not be able to work properly.

A quick update:

- someone at Dialogic advised me that all of the d/120jct boards are fax-capable, and showed me how to have the fax firmware loaded. from what i can see in the logs, i no longer get the 'fax not supported' messages.

- i still cannot receive a fax, but it is operating a bit differently. the sender still does not receive the fax handshaking tones and eventually hangs up saying 'not answered'. however, upon answering, vg records (the silence) to a .tif file.

i have attached the most recent logs and script. can you see why the fax handshaking is not occurring?

and shouldn't recording only start upon successful fax handshake?

My d/120jct-ls has a product code of 85-0546-204 rev. B.

This looks like a very old card. Can you see any screen printing on the card that would indicate the year it was made?

1999.

so far, every response from dialogic has been that fax should be supported on all models (i provided the model number to them too).

will the excerpt from kttel.txt be useful to send to them, or is there something else i need to provide to them to help get a definitive answer?

thx for your help,

Have you tried running the Dialogic fax demo app and see if it works with this board? The fax demo should be one of the sample apps installed by the Dialogic drivers.

We had a look around the lab for older D/120JCT cards and have found 4.

Three have "1999" screen printed on them, and one has "2001" screen printed on it.

The 1999 cards have a white sticker that says "85-0546-204 REV B" - same as your card !

The 2001 card has a white sticker that says "85-0546-401 REV A"

We placed the cards in our test server (SR60 used) and set FirmwareFile setting to spfax.fwl in the DCM's Mics tab.

None of the 1999 cards were able to open fax devices. Dialogic's own demo programs could not open any fax devices either.

The 2001 card was able to open fax devices on four of it's ports: dxxxB1C1, dxxxB1C2, dxxxB3C1 and dxxxB3C2. This is as expected, as: "with spfax.fwl firmware, the D/120JCT-LS has the capability of using 4 fax resources. Two can be used in the first 8 channels, and 2 more can be used in the last 4 channels. It doesn't matter which 2 in either group, but only two at a time in each group can be used as fax resources."

Looks like if you want to try using old D/120JCT cards to implement fax services it may be a good idea to look at cards that are designed after 2001.

As advised before, to save yourself time doing trial and error tests you may just want to get a current model D/41JCT.

i am a big step closer, but still missing something.

purchased a newer d/41jct-ls from an experienced vendor who explained some of the differences.

on this newer one, i can run the dialog fax demo app (did the negotiation and received a fax which it recorded to a tif file) .. woo-hoo

however when i then tried the same vg script i have been trying to use, to the same port on the d/41jct-ls, the results were the same. it answers, but there is no handshake/negotiation and it starts recording the silence to a tif file.

the latest logs/etc. are attached.

oops, here is the attachment.

note that i am still using the config of board 0 d/120jct-ls (8 of the 12 lines configured in config.xml, for voice) and board 2 d/41jct-ls (4 lines configured in config.xml, for fax). the boards are connected via ctbus. and as mentioned in the previous post, the dialog fax sample was able to receive to one of the fax ports on the d/41

It is possible that in the version that you are using right now there is bug which results in VoiceGuide only doing fax send/receive is the filename uses lowercase ".tif", ".tiff", ".pdf" suffixes.

Please try specifying the filename expression with ".tif" or ".pdf" on end and see if this works.

This lowercase dependence bug has been fixed and fix will be included in future releases.

hallelujah.

my d/41jct-ls is now receiving faxes.

and i love the feature where you automatically generate a pdf from the tif file.

i now have several old model non-fax capable d/120jct-ls and d/41jct-ls to arrange to return to those that sold them claiming they were fax capable <g>
